We took the Santa Express Train through the Royal Gorge last weekend. It was something I have been wanting to do with my family for a while.
The train is much bigger than I expected. It is so cool looking! The cars are decorated with Christmas lights and decorations. The car we were in was a dome car. The dome was sort of unnecessary at night but I imagine during the day it's worth the extra price. If I go on the train again it will be during the day. I would much rather see the beautiful scenery. There are bright lights on the sides of the cars, so you can see a little bit.
We were served cookies and hot chocolate. You can also order food and drinks but they are pricey. The staff was very attentive and friendly. They sang Christmas songs, had stories and tried to play Bingo. I'm not sure what happened with the Bingo? I think Santa interrupted the game. :)
My kids loved the train and really liked seeing the North Pole village outside with Santa and elves waving. My three year old was so excited when Santa came on the train. He couldn't wait to talk to him. Santa gave all of the kids a very nice bell to keep. Of course all of the kids rang the bells the rest of the trip.
I think the ride was 1 1/2 hours long which was an appropriate time. The train is a nice holiday kick off and I think I would do it again next year.
